More Joyous Odds-On in Queen Of The Turf Stakes Betting 2013

The bookies are taking zero chances with Gai Waterhouse’s star mare More Joyous in this Saturday’s 2013 Queen Of The Turf Stakes on Golden Slipper Day with the six-year-old installed as the odds-on favourite to take out the classic for the third straight year.

The daughter of More Than Ready won her first $400,000 Group 1 Inglis Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1500m) in 2011 off a three-straight winning streak before returning 12 months ago to successfully defend her title and complete the Canterbury Stakes – Queen of the Turf double for the second year on the trot.

Saturday sees the champ shoot for another Queen of the Turf trophy following a credible first-up second to ace stablemate Pierro in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m), run as an elite level race for the first time on March 23.

Her effort there against a younger, fitter champion was extremely credible and there seems little doubt that going back against the girls over more distance on Saturday makes More Joyous the one to beat.

The Queen Of The Turf Stakes betting markets reflect that sentiment with More Joyous dominating procedures as the $1.40 favourite after she and regular rider Nash Rawiller came up trumps with barrier one.

Just one of More Joyous’ 10 rivals are under $10 in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes odds too with Red Tracer ($8.50).

Drawn wide in barrier 10 the always honest Chris Waller-trained Dane Shadow five-year-old caught the eye last time out when coming within a short half-head of Appearance in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic also run over the 1500m at Rosehill.

The other major dangers at a nice price, some perhaps over the odds, then include Guy Walter’s Coolmore Classic winner Appearance ($10), the Grahame Begg-trained Secret Admirer ($13) coming off a fifth in the Canterbury Stakes with a nice barrier four draw and Streama at $17 to return to form after her seventh in the Coolmore.

There are also three $101 roughies in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes markets this year with There’s Only One, Shannara and Cathay Lady who has won four of her past six starts all at juicy, juicy odds.
