Victorian trainer John Sadler and top jockey Glen Boss will team up in Perth this Saturday with Ms Funovits in the Group 2 $500,000 2013 Karrakatta Plate (1200m).
Despite drawing wide in barrier 13, the talented filly is likely to start as favourite this weekend after showing a strong sprinting performance to win at Flemington on debut in January.
Sadler told Racing Victoria the barrier is not ideal but is confident his charge is in “tip top shape” for the Ascot feature.
“She’s in tip top shape but she’s unfortunately drawn barrier 13 on Saturday which is the only negative,” Sadler said.
“She’s a really good filly who’ll be even better as a three-year-old.”
Among her major rivals this weekend is Daniel Morton-trained filly Camporella who will chase a fourth consecutive win.
The Exceed and Excel filly is coming of a Listed win in the Gimcrack Stakes and is yet to finish worse than second from five career starts.
Also heading into the Karrakatta Plate in excellent form is Terror Force who is unbeaten from two starts including the Listed Perth Stakes last month.
Sadler and Boss will also combine in the Group 3 2013 WA Oaks (2400m) when Scarletini starts a short-priced favourite.
The three-year-old daughter of Bernadini takes terrific form to Perth, having won her past two starts at Moonee Valley and Sandown.
From six career outings she is yet to miss a place and has won three times.
“I’m not over-confident but I think Scarletini will be very hard to beat. She’ll make her own luck where as Ms Funovits need some,” Sadler said.
The most likely challenger to Scarletini is Moreish who won the 1000 Guineas and the Listed Natasha Stakes at Ascot in March.
