Bjorn Baker’s dream of having a 2013 Golden Slipper runner has come to fruition with colt Windjammer clawing his way into the field for the $3.5 million Group 1 race.
But now the two-year-old son of Bernadini has made the field, he faces an imposing challenge.
Windjammer is rated as a $51 chance in the Golden Slipper betting market despite some promising lead-up form.
After running second on debut at Rosehill in November he has returned to finish fourth in both the Lonhro Plate and the Group 2 Todman Stakes.
Baker takes confidence out of the fact his charge has received no luck in running in both his lead-ups and believes some fortune in the run will make him an upset chance this weekend.
“He’s only just made the field, no doubt it’s a big ask,” Baker said.
“It’s a dream for me to have a Slipper runner.
“He’s two runs this time in have been good without a lot of luck and he’s a rough chance.”
Coming through the Todman Stakes has been a recipe for success in recent years, with Pierro winning the race on the way to his Slipper win and 2011 champion Sepoy finishing second in the lead-up.
Baker also has three-year-old gelding Knockabout stepping out in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) this weekend.
The son of Snitzel is dropping back to three-year-old company after backing up his maiden win at Canterbury on March 8 with a third-place finish at the same track against older horses on March 27.
“He’s been good and back in his own age group is going to be a big advantage,” Baker said.
