Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
While much of the attention will be on the likes of Group 1 winner Norzita, Gai Waterhouse’s former star juvenile Driefontein and NZ Derby winning raider Habibi in this Saturday’s Vinery Stud Stakes 2013 one filly flying under the radar ahead of the Golden Slipper Day feature is the Nigel Blackiston-trained You’re So Good.
The lightly-raced daughter of Savabeel has had five starts to date and is yet to finish out of the money producing two good wins and three smart minor placings.
After some very promising form this autumn in Melbourne connections decided to travel to Sydney for the carnival riches with You’re So Good who will make her interstate debut at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday as one of 15 fillies in the $400,000 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
“On the form she has shown I believe she’s been one of the best fillies in Melbourne,” her Flemington-based trainer Blackiston said.
Drawn wide in barrier 12 with Vlad Duric to ride on the weekend, You’re So Good was last seen scoring an excellent all-the-way victory in the Listed Alexandra Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley.
That run came off her biggest performance so far when jumping from barrier 10 of 15 to come within a half-length of upset winner Ferlax when second in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington.
Blackiston is hoping she can be competitive again when she races in her second Group 1 on Saturday, the trainer having had great success on Golden Slipper Day three years ago when Littorio won the Group 1 The BMW (2400m) as a $16 outside back in 2010.
“Obviously she’ll be taking on horses like Dear Demi and Norzita and the good filly from New Zealand (Habibi), so it will be a tough race and we’re racing the reverse way – but I think she’s good enough,” he said.
“Whether she’s good enough this time in, we’ll find out. But she certainly will be later on.”
You’re So Good got a taste of racing the Sydney way of going on Tuesday morning when worked the opposite direction at her home track in Melbourne giving Blackiston confidence she will handle it under race conditions.
“I’ve given her three or four gallops the reverse way and she’s adapted very easily,” he said.
“This is going to be tougher than her last start. There’s some very nice fillies in it but we go there with a filly that is in good form and heading the right way.”
