Two last-start winners will have key gear changes for the Group 1 $3.5 million 2013 Golden Slipper (1200m) which will take place at Rosehill on Saturday.
Darley colt Sidestep was dominant when winning the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes on Saturday but trainer Peter Snowden is hoping he will sharpen up even further with the addition of blinkers.
“Trainer Peter Snowden advised Stewards that the addition of blinkers to the gear of Sidestep will be in order to get the colt to focus better throughout the race,” a Racing NSW statement said.
The Exceed And Excel colt is an $11 Slipper chance and will jump from a favourable barrier five position.
Also undergoing a gear change with the aim of being sharper at the beginning of the race is John O’Shea-trained filly Romantic Moon who will have winkers applied.
“Trainer John O’Shea advised the Stewards that he believes the addition of winkers will advantage the filly, principally in order to get her to begin better and travel throughout the race, being up in grade and what is expected to be a fast run race,” Racing NSW said.
Romantic Moon booked her placed in the Golden Slipper in March when she won the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes by a length.
The More Than Ready filly has won two of three starts and is at $26 in Golden Slipper betting.
A clear favourite for the Golden Slipper is Overreach who is at $2.15 after thumping her rivals in two starts this autumn.
Want to back Overreach but think the price is too short? Why not try bookmaker.com.au’s “Pick Your Own Odds” market which allows you to increase the odds of any runner by adjusting the margin you think she’ll win by.
She won the Moet and Chandon Stakes by 4 1/2 lengths and if you can again be as dominant you can get a whopping price of $34!
