Field Released for 2013 Tulloch Stakes

A full field has been announced for the Group 2 2013 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) which will take place as a key support race on the huge Golden Slipper day program at Rosehill on Saturday.

A quality group of 16 horses plus two emergencies have been named to contest the $1750,000 event including Victorian colt Philippi.

The Michael Kent-trained galloper has won three of six starts and heads into the race on the back of a runner-up finish in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley last month.

Bringing sensational form into the race but facing a step up in class is Gai Waterhouse’s colt Hippopus who has put big margins on his rivals to win his past two starts at Canterbury.

Hippopus is joined by Indianapolis and King Of Olympia as part of a three-pronged Waterhouse-trained Tulloch Stakes team.

Also stepping up in class but coming off a big win is Laser Flash who won a Benchmark 70 by 1 1/2 lengths at Canterbury on February 27.

Bjorn Baker’s stable has been on fire lately and he has in-form gelding Knockabout stepping out this weekend.

The son of Snitzel broke his maiden status when getting up to 1900m on March 8 at Canterbury and backed that up by running third in a BM75 on March 27.

Travelling from Victoria for the race is lightly-raced gelding Air Striker who is yet to finish outside the top three in three career outings.

David Hayes has accepted with Gerontius who won at Sandown before finishing fourth in the Alister Clark Stakes.
