Bumper 2013 Sebring HKJC Stakes Field Released

The Golden Slipper Day racing action at Rosehill this Saturday is set to come to a close with a capacity field of sprinters facing off in the Sebring HKJC Stakes 2013 which is due to jump as Race 9 at 5:20pm (ASEST).

Host to a field full of sprinting talent this year the $125,000 Group 3 Sebring HKJC Stakes (1200m) has attracted 16 starters plus the maximum five emergencies as those shorter-distance gallopers look for a black type victory during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

With glamour mare Black Caviar dominating the bigger sprints, her next target being the $1 million Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday week, connections of other sprinters have been forced to consider races like the Sebring to avoid a clash with the undefeated queen.

Despite the numbers there are just two last start winners in the Sebring HKJC Stakes this year with the Peter Snowden-trained Skytrain (barrier 12) and Joe Pride’s See The World.

Veteran Lonhro seven-year-old Skytrain enjoyed a strong summer season including two stakes victories most recently defeating Group 1 winner Streama by nearly two lengths in the Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) in the wet at Warwick Farm on February 23.

See The World’s last start victory came much more recently as the Danzero six-year-old improved on a disappointing first-up effort to put an easy three lengths on their closest rival Anise in the Listed Maurice McCarton Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on March 23.

Skytrain will be joined in the field by stablemate Rarefied who races for the first time since December 2011.

The perennial runner-up strung together four straight second place finishes during the summer of 2011 including behind Ortensia in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes in Perth but injury saw them miss the past year of racing.

The Commands gelding showed they were ready for a return however with a winning barrier trial over 1000m at Hawkesbury on March 18.

Pride will also have multiple Sebring HKJC Stakes runners also accepting for the consistent Arena mare Ladys Angel who has gate 16, into 12 with emergencies out, and his Dubawi gelding Tiger Tees out to improve on their ninth in The Galaxy in elite level company from a wide gate last start.

The top-rated and weighted hopeful with 58kg meanwhile is the Gwenda Markwell-trained Rolling Pin who resumes racing here in gate two with Nash Rawiller to ride, the horse third in the Epsom Handicap last October after back-to-back Group victories in Sydney.

Other highly-rated acceptors with 57.5kg then include former Group 1 winner Atomic Force with the second widest gate to overcome and rising nine-year-old Happy Zero.

Also in the mix are the likes of Mick Price’s Smokin’ Joey in gate three, track specialist Star Of Octagonal and recent Newmarket Handicap third placegetter Aeronautical.
