Scandiva wins 2013 Golden Slipper lead up – Magic Night Sakes Results

Anthony Cumming’s improving filly Scandiva has taken out the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes for 2013 at Rosehill Gardens today, the last lead up race for two-year-old fillies heading to the Golden Slipper next weekend.

Scandiva, an $8.10 chance, held off a strong charge to the line by Shahad ($31) to win by a short head. A photo was needed for third, with Major Conquest getting the nod over Vocalise.

Scandiva jumped well with jockey Peter Robl while Brillant Bisc took up the lead. Greytfilly missed the start by six lengths. Coming into the straight Brillant Bisc held the lead but by the 200m Scandiva had surged to the front. The danger for Scandiva was Shahad who finished strongly out wide.

A decision has not yet been made to take Scandiva to the Golden Slipper 2013 after today’s win with trainer Anthony Cumming admitting that she has had a “fairly tight racing schedule so far”.

Asked whether he could knock back a shot at the Golden Slipper, Cumming’s added

“I’ve found it impossible in the past”

Jockey Peter Robl said after the race,

“It was [a tough win] and she’s been a nice filly and she’s kept improving every start this time in”, jockey Peter Robl said after the race.

“She raced first up a bit erratic, blinkers on at Warwick Farm, she won very well she improved here today and she’s going to win better class races.”

“She seem to come through it, she’s a pretty tough sort of filly”, Robl added.
