Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Gerald Ryan’s flying young filly Snitzerland has unsurprisingly opened at the top of the BMW Galaxy 2013 betting markets for this Saturday at Rosehill Gardens following the early withdrawal of the injury-prone Hay List.
The three-year-old daughter of Snitzel resumed racing with a massive win in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Warwick Farm on March 16 where she set a course record beating home the likes of Decision Time, Howmuchdoyouloveme and Hay List by a minimum three lengths.
Snitzerland will vie for successive victories this autumn when she goes second-up into the $350,000 Group 1 Canterbury BMW Galaxy (1100m).
Along with Hay List, Queensland trainer Desleigh Forster has also withdrawn Adebisi from The Galaxy field paving the way for the first two emergencies Unpretentious and Isabella Snowflake to gain a run who now both pay $17 to take out the classic in an upset.
Drawn in barrier 11 originally Snitzerland will come into nine should the last two emergencies fail to gain a start, the gun filly currently paying $3.30 in the The Galaxy odds.
Despite the wide draw jockey Corey Brown is confident she can overcome the gate and the handicap conditions of the race where she will 53.5kg – Challenge Stakes runner-up Howmuchdoyouloveme (53.5kg) enjoying a 4.5kg turnaround.
“I would have said between four and nine would be ideal,” he said in regards to the barriers.
“It’s not ideal (the weight conditions) but the way she won the other day was so good.
“I actually didn’t think she was that good. She went up a level for me after that win.
“She’s a much more mature horse in the head and within herself this time in.”
There are just two other runners under double figures in the Galaxy betting markets with:
- #2 Sea Siren ($4.40) – Resuming triple Group 1 winning Fastnet Rock mare prepared by John O’Shea, travelled to Hong Kong last summer but failed when ninth in the HK Sprint, hasn’t raced since but is a class sprinter with the ability to bounce back here especially with her good first-up record including the Group 1 Manikato during the sprint
- #12 Pampelonne ($7.50) – Drawn awkwardly with gate 17 but gets in with just 52.5kg, Glen Boss to ride the Tim Martin-trained four-year-old, hasn’t raced since Melbourne Cup Carnival when bummed out in the Yellowglen but they did win The Shorts at Randwick earlier that prep and has had two good trials leading up to their return most recently second over 900m at Rosehill
Other longer-priced hopefuls at a nice price with genuine claims to take home The Galaxy trophy then include Challenge Stakes third placed Howmuchdoyouloveme ($10) in gate three, smart sprinter Tiger Tees ($13) with the extreme outside barrier to overcome, Bel Sprinter ($15) and Challenge Stakes runner-up Decision Time ($16).
