Clarry Conners’ promising filly Assail is favourite to bounce back from a disappointing last-start performance and redeem herself in the Group 2 2013 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The two-year-old faces a must-win occasion this weekend in order to quality for Saturday week’s 2013 Golden Slipper and is considered a $3.50 chance.
Assail missed a golden opportunity to qualify for the Slipper in the Sweet Embrace Stakes when she bombed the start and eventually finished sixth when an odds-on favourite.
Second in the betting and a well-backed market mover is Itameri ($5.50) who will be having their first run since November.
The Darley-owned filly was fourth on debut in the Listed 7News Plate before running a narrow second at Moonee Valley.
Heading into the race showing reasonable form is Greytfilly ($7.50) who finished off strongly to run third in the Sweet Embrace Stakes.
Also under double figures is Sense Of Hite who is considered an $8.50 chance for what will be her Sydney debut.
The Russell Cameron-trained filly has just one start to her name, having finished runner-up in the Listed Cinderella Stakes at Morphetville.
Coming off a Sweet Embrace Stakes runner-up is Thump who provides some value at $11.
Also rated an $11 chance is Bulbula who won on debut at Sandown in November and has returned this autumn to run second in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Flemington.
Peter Moody’s filly Brilliant Bisc ($16) struggled in the heavy ground in the Silver Slipper but prior to that ran third to Golden Slipper favourite Overreach in the Widden Stakes.
Others contesting the Magic Night Stakes include Sweet Embrace Stakes fourth Vocalise ($17) and Major Conquest ($19) who is coming off a third place finish on debut at Gosford.
