Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Ace Kiwi colt It’s A Dundeel has opened odds-on favourite for the 2013 Rosehill Guineas this Saturday as the Murray Baker-trained youngster looks to complete the second leg of the Autumn 3YO Triple Crown.
The High Chaparral three-year-old first hit the headlines down under during the spring when they posted a nice string of wins in Sydney including the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).
They returned down under for the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival running a first-up fourth in the wet to Gai Waterhouse’s glamour colt Pierro in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m).
From there they improved with the step up to the mile when taking out the Group 1 Randwick Guineas at Warwick Farm last start on March 16.
Saturday they will look to complete the Sydney three-year-olds Guineas double with a win in the $500,000 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) – running as Race 6 at 3:30pm (AEST) at Rosehill Gardens.
Their last start victory and ideal barrier three draw have seen them enter odds-on territory early in the Rosehill Guineas betting at a current quote of $1.85.
Connections will keep the blinkers they had on for the Randwick Guineas as It’s A Dundeel heads towards their autumn grand final in the $1.5 million Group 1 Australian Derby (2400m) on April 13 at Royal Randwick which completes the triple crown.
“I’m really happy with him,” Baker said.
“His work has been fantastic and he looks fantastic. The blinkers stay on for Saturday and everything is in order.”
Anthony Cummings’ talented Victoria Derby winner Fiveandahalfstar is then the $3.30 second pick for the Guineas as they attempt to finally get back into the winners’ stall after a number of close calls this autumn.
The Hotel Grand gelding hit the headlines last spring capping off an excellent campaign with an upset win in the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) as a $41 outsider.
This time in they have had four starts and incredibly finished runner-up in each one including their last two at elite level.
After just being nudged out of the Australian Cup victory at Flemington by Super Cool Fiveandahalfstar was seen last Saturday running a brave second to upset winner Foreteller in the Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill.
They return to the track just seven days later for the Rosehill Guineas this weekend where they will jump from barrier nine with their Ranvet Stakes hoop Peter Robl staying on.
There is just one other hopeful under $10 in the Rosehill Guineas odds with the Peter Gelagotis-trained Hvasstan paying $8, the Fastnet Rock colt coming off a win in the Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) at Moonee Valley on March 15.
Other longer priced contenders with claims for an upset then include the Chris Waller-trained NZ Guineas winning colt Sacred Falls ($12) out to improve on their Randwick Guineas fifth, and Peter Snowden’s Randwick Guineas third placed Tatra ($18) who was the winner of the Sandown Guineas during the spring.
