In a field full of Group 1 performers, Mick Price’s lightly-raced young filly Isabella Snowflake goes somewhat unnoticed in The Galaxy 2013 entries for this weekend’s sprint clash at Rosehill Gardens.
The three-year-old daughter of Not A Single Doubt however is a nice up-and-coming type that will step up to Group company for the first time in the $350,000 Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), a race that has this year drawn 25 nominations.
To date Isabella Snowflake has won four of her five starts, all in Melbourne, most recently the Listed Bob Hoystead Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on March 2 beating home the likes of Ready To Rip and Karuta Queen – the latter having backed up to run second to the mighty Black Caviar in last Friday night’s William Reid Stakes.
Showing she could handle the Sydney way of racing Price bought her to New South Wales last week and the filly ran a competitive second to fellow The Galaxy nominee Bel Sprinter in an 800m trial at Randwick on the 22nd, an effort that convinced the trainer she was as ready as she could be for her big Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival test.
“It was hard to find exactly the right race so I settled on this and I’m pretty happy with it now,” Price said.
“We went up to Sydney nice and early to settle in and get her going along.
“It seems to have come together judging by her run in a trial at Randwick last week.”
She has the consistency, the right early form and Isabella Snowflake also has the weight to be competitive in The Galaxy having been allocated the 52kg minimum with the weights topped by three time Group 1 champion Hay List on 59.5kg.
