The David Vandkye-trained Prince Cheri, one of the top fancies for next month’s Sydney Cup 2013, has been ruled out of the two mile classic and the remainder of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival due to sore shins.
One of 70 horses still officially entered for the $500,000 Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick on April 27, the lightly-raced Lando four-year-old was to have lined up in their fourth career run last weekend in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill.
The French import, previously prepared by Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mikel Delzangles, had two starts in their native France for a win on debut and a second over the mile and a half last year.
After spending over six months out of the racing scene they debuted down under for new trainer Vandyke in Sydney for an eye-catching win at Canterbury on March 8.
It has since been confirmed however that their Ranvet Stakes withdrawal was due to the discovery they had sore shins on Friday morning and that they have subsequently been spelled.
As well as the Sydney Cup 2013 Prince Cheri was also nominated for the $2.25 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m) Saturday week, April 6, on Golden Slipper Day.
