Appearance Wins Second Group 1 in Thrilling 2013 Coolmore Classic

Lightly-raced mare Appearance claimed her second Group 1 title in an exciting blanket finish in the $600,000 2013 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill today.

The four-year-old got the bob of the head at the right time to win by the narrowest of margins in a three-way photo with Red Tracer and Norzita.

The Guy Walter-trained galloper is quickly establishing herself in mares’ company, having also won the Group 1 Myer Classic at the Spring Carnival.

Now with five wins from 12 starts, Walter said Appearance will get the chance to chase further success in the top grade in both the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes and the Group 1 Doncaster Mile.

“Outstanding mare,” Walter said.

“She goes to the Queen Of The Turf and then the Doncaster. We’ll see what happens from there.”

Jockey Blake Shinn admitted he wasn’t sure if he’d got the desired result crossing the line but was full of praise for the effort from the progressive daughter of Commands.

“I wasn’t sure [if we’d won],” Shin said.

“Inside the 300m she just lifted for me. She responded the more I asked of her, she picked up.

“It’s just fantastic to win my first Group 1 for Guy Walter.”

Appearance will face a likely rematch with many of the Coolmore Classic contenders in the $400,000 Queen Of The Turf Stakes in two weeks time.

Gerald Ryan-trained filly Flying Snitzel produced an eye-catching run to come from a clear last on the home turn to run to make up plenty of ground.
