Both bookies and punters are predicting a closely-run contest in the Group 1 2013 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on Saturday.
There is no standout favourite, with Bart Cummings’ filly Norzita topping the market at $5 ahead of Steps In Time ($5.50).
Norzita, a Group 1 winner in the Flight Stakes in the spring, will be running third-up after winning the Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley and running second in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes.
Steps In Time has been in terrific form so far this autumn, putting back-to-back victories together in the Group 2 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Classic and the Listed Wiggle Stakes.
Occupying the third line of betting is Dear Demi ($7) who is coming off a strong win in the Group 2 Surround Stakes.
The versatile Clarry Conners-trained galloper is one of the nation’s premier fillies and won the Group 1 Crown Oaks in November.
Fellow three-year-old Bennetta is not far behind in betting at $7.50 but will have to bounce back after finishing fifth in the Surround Stakes.
Also under double figures is Gerald Ryan-trained filly Flying Snitzel ($9) who scored the biggest win of her career when running over the top of Norzita to claim the Kewney Stakes.
Four horses share the next line of betting at $13, with Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Driefontein joining quality mares Streama, Red Tracer and Appearance.
Streama and Appearance are both Group 1 winners while Red Tracer is coming off victory in the Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes.
Another Group 1 winner in the field is Pear Tart who is at big odds of $21 and was last seen finishing third in the Wiggle Stakes.
Others contesting the Coolmore Classic include Millie Fox second Risk Aversion ($26), Victorian mare Star Of Giselle ($26) and New Zealand mare Zurella ($26).
