Phar Lap Stakes 2013 – Final Field and Barrier Draw

Eleven horses have been named to contest the Group 2 2013 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday which features some quality three-year-olds.

Heading into the race in excellent form is Team Hawkes-trained colt Ninth Legion who was narrowly beaten in the Bendigo Guineas on Saturday and won at Sandown the start before.

Third in the Bendigo Guineas was Force Command who has been consistent without winning this autumn.

The Greg Eurell-trained colt has placed in three of his four autumn outings including the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes and the Listed Manfred Stakes.

John O’Shea-trained colt Ashokan hasn’t won in 12 months but he came close in the Canberra Guineas on March 10 when second to Complicate.

Out to turn around some poor autumn form will be Darley colt Albrecht who has finished unplaced in three starts this campaign.

The son of Redoute’s Choice was a solid performer in the spring, finishing a narrow runner-up in the Group 1 Golden Rose and winning the Group 3 Up and Coming Stakes.

There has been plenty of hype about Mick Kent-trained colt High Shot after a stunning debut win at Cranbourne last year but he has so far failed to deliver, finishing sixth and eighth in two starts this autumn.

Gai Waterhouse, who always has success during the autumn, has accepeted with Indianapolis who will have to bounce back from a disappointing eighth in the Canberra Guineas.

Stepping up in class is Anthony Cummings’ filly Coyote Miss who was runner-up at Newcastle at her most recent outing.

Others in the Phar Lap Stakes include Toydini, Turnley and Rowie.
