The lightly-raced five-year-old is rated a $5.50 chance for what will be the biggest test of his career to date.

Trainer Guy Walter has set him on a Doncaster path and he has certainly shown signs of a quality horse in the making.

Jockey Blake Shinn missed Saturday’s Warwick Farm meeting due to the flu but returns today and is clearly excited about being aboard the emerging horse.

“Over the flu and feeling in tip top shape again. Can’t wait jump aboard the “jacq attack”at newcastle today in the Newmarket #excitinghorse,” Shinn said on twitter.

Walter has always had a strong opinion of Jacquinot Bay but said he “needs to be winning” today in order to prove he is good enough to go to the Doncaster.

“He will be borderline to get a Doncaster start so he will need to do something,” Walter said.

“This will be the biggest test for him but I’m happy with how he is going.”

Current favourite for the Newcastle Newmarket at $4.50 is Mahisara who will be running first-up after winning three of four starts during the spring including the Group 3 Sandown Stakes.

The Paul Messara-trained entire has won six of 15 starts and is likely to be targeted at bigger races at the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
