15 in 2013 Coolmore Classic Final Field

A classy group of fillies and mares have been named in the final field for Saturday’s Group 1 2013 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill.

Included in the 15-horse field is John O’Shea’s galloper Steps In Time who has been the in-form mare so far this autumn.

The five-year-old has put together back-to-back victories to begin her autumn campaign, winning the Group 2 Thoroughbred Breeders’ Classic and the Listed Wiggle Stakes.

But she will have to overcome a wide barrier 14 draw to make it three in a row.

Drawing at the other end of the scale is Red Tracer who will run from the inside.

The Chris Waller-trained mare, who has been nominated for the KrisFlyer Sprint in Singapore, was second to Steps In Time in the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Classic before scoring a fighting win in the Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes.

Beaten by the narrowest of margins in the Millie Fox was Queensland mare Risk Aversion who has the advantage of carrying the minimum weight of 52kg this weekend.

There are plenty of fillies taking on the older mares including Group 1 winners Dear Demi and Norzita.

Crown Oaks winner Dear Demi is coming off a win in the Group 2 Surround Stakes while Norzita will be out to bounce back after running an upset second to fellow Coolmore Classic starter Flying Snitzel in the Kewney Stakes earlier this month.

Also out to turn around their most recent performance will be Bennetta who finished fifth when favourite in the Surround Stakes.

The Grahame Begg-trained filly won her previous three starts.

New Zealand mare Zurella returns to Australia after winning the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes at the Spring Carnival.

Others in the Coolmore Classic field include Group 1 winner Patinack pair Pear Tart and Longport, Surround Stakes second Driefontein and Victorian mare Star Of Giselle.
