Queensland colt Octane Flyer will get the chance to press his 2013 Golden Slipper claims when he lines up in the Group 3 2013 Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
The Kelly Schweida-trained youngster is not currently nominated for the Slipper but a big performance on Saturday would have connections strongly considering paying the $150,000 late entry fee for the $3.5 million race.
Octane Flyer has had just two starts, winning on debut at Doomben in October before running second to Greytfilly at the same venue later that month.
Wet weather has caused havoc with many runners preparations in Queensland, meaning a trip to Sydney was a suitable option for the raw galloper.
The southern trip allows Schweida to avoid racing all his juveniles against each other in Brisbane.
“It’s 1200m which will suit him and if he can run in the first four I’d be happy with that,” Schweida said.
“It’s not a big field and it’s good prizemoney so why not have a go?”
Octane Flyer is currently a $16 chance in the Skyline Stakes, with John Sargent’s colt Good Job Bro the favourite at $3.40.
The Choisir colt was a last-start winner by three lengths in the Darby Racing Handicap last month and prior to that produced consecutive seconds to begin his career.
A close second favourite is Fuerza who has finished runner-up narrowly in two races to begin his career including behind highly-rated stablemate Twilight Royale.
Coming off a fourth in the Silver Slipper is All The Talk ($6) while Dothraki ($6) was a winner at his last start in December.
