Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
One of the traditional preparatory races for fillies heading towards the classic 2013 Golden Slipper next month will run at Warwick Farm this Saturday, Paul Messara to saddle up one of the fillies in the Sweet Embrace Stakes with Vocalise out to make an impact.
The untapped daughter of Redoute’s Choice is one of 11 hopefuls in the $125,000 Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m), running as Warwick Farm Race 4 this Randwick Guineas Day.
Vocalise is also one of only five in the field to boast a previous race win having won on debut by a nice margin at Canterbury over 1100m on February 27.
She had the rails draw and Corey Brown aboard there and this weekend must overcome gate nine with Brown retaining the ride.
It is a hot edition of the Sweet Embrace Stakes too with $15 third fancy for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 6, the Clarry Conners-trained Assail, to jump the favourite currently paying $2.60.
Vocalise meanwhile is at double figures paying $13 to post back-to-back wins.
She is also at a very generous price in the futures Golden Slipper betting odds paying $101 to score a massive upset in the world’s richest juveniles’ race.
While hopeful she will emerge a genuine Golden Slipper 2013 contender Messara believes Vocalise’s breeding (Redoute’s Choice out of Serenade Lily) will see her be more competitive over longer distances later during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and further ahead in the spring.
“She has always been one of our better two-year-olds, but I think she will get a lot better as the races get longer,” he said.
“She is out of half-sister to (2006 Australian Oaks winner) Serenade Rose, so she is bred to be an Oaks filly.
“But you only get one chance at the Golden Slipper and if she was to win on Saturday, we would go that way.
“My feeling is that she will be much better at 1400m because she relaxes and I think she will be a Sires’ and Champagne [Stakes] filly.”
The $500,000 ATC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) runs at Royal Randwick on April 13 while the $400,000 Group 1 Champagne Stakes is over the mile at the same track on Sydney Cup Day, April 27.
