Assail Leads Sweet Embrace Stakes 2013 Odds

As one of the best fancied juveniles for this year’s Golden Slipper it is little surprise that the Clarry Conners-trained filly Assail has opened top of the 2013 Sweet Embrace Stakes odds for this Saturday at Warwick Farm.

The daughter of Charge Forward has made a full recovery from a hoof infection that saw her miss the Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic, for which she was the top fancy following back-to-back wins including the Wyong Magic Millions Classic back in December.

This Saturday Assail returns to racing making her Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival debut in the $125,000 Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) where she is set to jump favourite in the 11-filly field.

Drawn on the rails in gate one with regular rider Peter Robl maintaining his association Assail showed she was back to race fitness with a 2.5 length barrier trial win at Rosehill over 900m earlier this month and as such pays $2.90 in the current Sweet Embrace Stakes betting markets.

She is also third favourite for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on April 6 paying $15 behind the Gai Waterhouse-trained Widden Stakes winner Overreach ($4.40) and Villa Verde ($7) to resume racing Saturday week.

Hot on Assail’s heels in the Sweet Embrace Stakes 2013 odds then is the Chris Waller-trained Calming Influence at $3.70.

The progressive Commands filly won her Rosehill debut in January before a distant second to Good Job Bro at Warwick Farm on February.

Considered Waller’s best shot at Golden Slipper glory this year Calming Influence isn’t currently nominated for the world’s richest two-year-olds’ race but could earn a late entry with a win on the weekend.

The only other Sweet Embrace Stakes hopeful under $10 in the current markets is then John O’Shea’s More Than Ready filly Romantic Moon at $6.50 out to improve on her distant eighth to Sweet Idea in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) in the mud at Rosehill on March 2.

Longer priced chances that could come out of the woodwork and steal the show then include Gai Waterhouse-trained duo of Greytfilly ($10) and Most Joyful ($10), as well as Paul Messara’s Vocalise ($13) who won on debut last start at Canterbury.
