Heading the field for the $220,000 three-year-old event is Mark Kavanagh-trained colt Sheer Talent.

Kavanagh saw Super Cool win the Australian Cup on Saturday and may have another quality runner in Sheer Talent.

The Redoute’s Choice colt won the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes in February and was last seen running third in the Group 1 Australian Guineas on March 2.

Also coming off a strong Guineas performance is Hvasstan who was fourth and will appreciate a rise in distance this weekend.

Michael Kent has accepted with emerging stayer Philippi who should also enjoy the longer trip after running sixth in the Guineas.

David Hayes has a strong presence in the race, with three of his charges set to line up.

Headlining the trio is Bass Strait who has won two of six starts and was fifth in both the CS Hayes Stakes and the Group 1 Australian Guineas.

Other Hayes-trained runners in the field are Green Roller and Gerontius.

Gerontius is rising in grade after winning at Sandown on March 6 while Green Roller won the Listed Strutt Stakes in Hobart last month and was last seen running second at Moonee Valley on March 1.

The other horse contesting the Alister Clark Stakes is Soldier’s March who will make his city debut.

The Cranbourne-trained gelding has improved with each step up in distance and has recorded minor placings in his past three starts at Woolamai, Kyneton and Traralgon.

This is an important race to follow as many of these horses have been nominated for next month’s Group 1 Australian Derby.
