2013 St Albans Stakes Field – Moonee Valley Night Racing

This Friday evening Moonee Valley Racecourse will come alive for Alister Clark Stakes Night, one of the key support races on the card being the St Albans Stakes 2013 for two-year-olds.

Set to run as Moonee Valley Race 3 at 7:45pm (AEST) this year’s $120,000 Listed Alternate Railway St Albans Stakes (1200m) has drawn a final field of eight juveniles.

Two of the eight youngsters engaged in this weekend’s event are also nominated for the iconic $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) running at Rosehill on April 6 during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Mark Kavanagh’s unraced Fastnet Rock colt Vero Beach and the David Hayes-trained Gracious Prospect are both triple figure roughies for the Golden Slipper 2013, something that could change should they win on Friday night.

Tale Of The Cat two-year-old Gracious Prospect has had six starts to date but is yet to break their maiden status.

They came close last start when beaten under two lengths finishing fourth to Grand Tycoon from a wide gate on a soft Launceston track for the Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Launceston.

There are then two horses with a previous career win to their name with the Danny O’Brien-trained More Than Ready colt Excitable Boy drawn nicely in gate two who enjoyed a good win in the Listed Festival of Racing 1000 at Flemington earlier this month, and Anthony Freedman’s Cruden Bay.

A son of top Aussie sire Not A Single Doubt, Cruden Bay won on debut last start by an impressive vour lengths at Bendigo and will have Glen Boss aboard again when they look to retain their undefeated record here.

Freedman meanwhile has also accepted for Mista Spot also having their second career start.

See below for the official St Albans Stakes 2013 field, barriers, jockeys and weights.
