Not even Hay List will prevent classy filly Snitzerland resuming in the Group 2 2013 Challenge Stakes (1000m) at Warwick Farm this weekend.
The three-year-old is one of 15 horses nominated to take on returning star Hay List and trainer Gerald Ryan has confirmed she will be an acceptor.
The well-regarded Sydney trainer oversaw Snitzerland get through a solo piece of trackwork this morning and is confident she is up to taking on the older horses this weekend.
“There aren’t a lot of sprints for three-year-old fillies so she has to take on the older horses,” Ryan said.
The 2012 Golden Slipper runner-up had a terrific spring campaign, winning four of six starts including the Group 2 Danehill Stakes, the Group 3 San Domenico and the Group 3 Champagne Stakes.
Under weight-for-age conditions, Snitzerland will carry 54.5kg in her autumn kickoff this weekend, 4.5kg less than the older males and 2.5kg less than the older females.
The winner of six of 11 starts will be joined in the Challenge by Group 1-winning stablemate Mrs Onassis.
Ryan said Mrs Onassis is in similar condition to the horse that won the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on February 23.
A highly consistent sprinter, Mrs Onassis has won eight of 18 starts and collected more than $500,000 in prizemoney.
Despite its Group 2 status, the Challenge Stakes has attract a strong nominations list including many horses regularly seen at Group 1 level.
Last year’s Galaxy winner Temple Of Boom will kick off his autumn campaign while Peter Moody’s entire Golden Archer who finished third to Black Caviar in the Lightning Stakes first-up.
Others nominated include talented front-runner Howmuchdoyouloveme, Joe Pride-trained pair Tiger Tees and Ladys Angel and 2010 Golden Slipper runner-up Decision Time.
