Cassidy Secures Sweet 2013 Golden Slipper Ride

Hall of Fame jockey Jim Cassidy is in a prime position to secure his second Golden Slipper having aquired the 2013 ride on Silver Slipper Stakes winner Sweet Idea.

Sweet Idea

Silver Slipper winner Sweet Idea will be ridden by Jim Cassidy in the 2013 Golden Slipper. PHoto: Steve Hart.

Cassidy, 50, was aboard the Gai Waterhouse-trained Ha Ha for their 2001 Golden Slipper triumph and he has a genuine shot at securing the world’s richest race for juveniles again this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival having been booked to ride Waterhouse’s smart Snitzel filly Sweet Idea.

While Cassidy is shooting for his second victory in the $3.5 million feature, to run at Rosehill Gardens on April 6, Waterhouse will vie for an incredible fifth Golden Slipper winner.

In the latest Golden Slipper odds Sweet Idea occupies the sixth line of betting at $16 equal with their stablemate and last start Warwick Farm winner Whittington.

She has won two of her five career starts most recently taking out the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) in the wet at Rosehill on March 2.

Sweet Idea also boats a Group 3 second in the BJ MaLachlan Stakes at Doomben last December and second to Real Surreal in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

While Sweet Idea is a top chance they aren’t the shortest-priced of Waterhouse’s 2013 Golden Slipper contingent, the ace trainer also preparing the $4.40 favourite Overreach who resumed last month with a scintillating six length win in the Listed Widden Stakes (1100m).

Still, Cassidy is thrilled to have picked up the mount on the longer priced Waterhouse runner who he first rode when winning the Silver Slipper which earned the filly a Golden Slipper ballot exemption.

“How could I have turned down that sort of an offer?” Cassidy said on Tuesday.

“I galloped her this morning and she felt great.

“She’s a ball of muscle if she can draw a gate I’m sure she’ll be right there.”

It has been an awesome start to the week for Cassidy who was also booked by Waterhouse to ride her three time Group 1 winning Lonhro colt Pierro for their much awaited showdown with Doncaster Mile winning stablemate More Joyous in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) the following week.
