Assail Leads Sweet Embrace Stakes Nominations 2013

This Saturday at Warwick Farm’s Randwick Guineas Day the 2013 Golden Slipper aspirations of a number of top two-year-olds will go on the line with one of the top fancies for next month’s $3.5 million feature, Assail, topping the nominations for the fillies’ 2013 Sweet Embrace Stakes.

Running alongside the colts and geldings’ Skyline Stakes, this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) has drawn nine nominees led by the Clary Conners-trained Assail.

The undefeated daughter of Charge Forward has won both of her career starts to date most recently running off with the Wyong Magic Millions by three lengths before being scratched from the Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic due to a hoof infection.

She showed she’d made a nice recovery however with a blistering trial win over 900m at Rosehill, home of the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) on April 6, at the start of this month.

Assail is currently paying $15 in the latest Golden Slipper odds trailing only the Gai Waterhouse-trained Widden Stakes winner Overreach ($4.40) and Not A Single Doubt filly Villa Verde last seen winning a Melbourne Cup Day black type in early November.

Four of the other eight Sweet Embrace Stakes entries are also Golden Slipper-bound with the John O’Shea-trained Romantic Moon ($67), super mare More Joyous’s younger full sister Most Joyful ($101), Paul Messara’s Redoute’s Choice filly Vocalise ($101) who won at Canterbury on debut last month, and $201 roughie Tropical Force from the Sydney stables of Bjorn Baker.

Other notable nominees for Saturday also include the Chris Waller-trained Calming Influence coming off a second at the track and distance in the wet, Waterhouse’s well-tried Greytfilly and the unraced Miss Atom Bomb.

See below for the current Sweet Embrace Stakes 2013 entries with nominations extended until 11:00am (AEST) today.

A win in the Sweet Embrace Stakes on the weekend will see Assail firm in her position in the Golden Slipper betting markets making now the time to get behind her at
