Twilight Royale Flies Home to Win 2013 Sires’ Produce Stakes

The impressive early career form from Sydney filly Twilight Royale continued today with a fast-finishing win in the Group 2 2013 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

The two-year-old has now claimed the first two legs of the Inglis Triple Crown, with today’s victory coming on the back of a 2 1/2 length romp in the $250,000 Inglis Premier in Mornington.

She will get the chance to chase up to $2.6 million in bonus prizemoney in the third leg at Scone next year in the 2014 Scone Guineas.

With race-favourite Weinholt setting the pace, the race was set up perfectly for the daughter of Testa Rossa who used every bit of the Flemington straight to finish strongly and claim a narrow win over Shamus Award and Great Esteem.

Speaking from Sydney, trainer Bjorn  Baker was thrilled with the performance but said the result came as no surprise.

“We went down there and we were pretty confident,” Baker said.

“She licked her bowl clean and the only two times she’s ever licked her bowl clean was before Mornington and last night.”

Baker described the emerging galloper as a “winner” and is predicting bigger things to come for the now valuable broodmare.

“She tries and she’s very genuine and it’s nice to go to the races with a horse like that,” he said.

Twilight Royale has now won three of five starts and finished runner-up on the two other occasions.
