Super Cool is 2013 Australian Cup Market Mover – Betting Update

Three-year-old Super Cool presents the biggest danger to 2013 Australian Cup favourite Green Moon.

Well, at least as far as the punters are concerned.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained gelding has been the best-backed runner in the $1 million weight-for-age feature and is now at $4.40 after opening at $5.50 earlier this week.

There’s no denying the Victoria Derby runner-up’s form, arriving in the race on the back of a strong win in the Group 2 Autumn Classic.

The son of Fastnet Rock is expected to appreciate the dry conditions at Flemington on Saturday, with early predictions suggesting the track will be a Good 3.

If Super Cool is to taste success in the Australian Cup, he will have to overcome a strong field including Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon ($4).

The Lloyd Williams-owned import will attempt to add a third Flemington Group 1 win to his resume and is expected to improve from a solid first-up fourth in the Futurity Stakes.

Occupying the third line of betting is Mr Moet ($5.50) who brings terrific form into the race.

The Perth stayer will appreciate the rise in distance after running third in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes and second in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes.

The only other runner under double figures is Fiveandahalfstar ($8) who joins Super Cool as the second three-year-old in the race.

The Anthony Cummings-trained gelding will attempt to score his second Flemington Group 1 win after taking out the Victoria Derby at the Spring Carnival.

The Hotel Grand gelding will be out to exact revenge on Super Cool after finishing runner-up in the Autumn Classic.

Highlighting the quality of the Australian Cup field is the number of well-credentialled runners at double-figure odds.

Included in that category are Group 1 winner Mawingo ($10), Futurity Stakes runner-up Glass Harmonium ($11) and Peter Young Stakes winner Foreteller ($13).
