Bennetta Short 2013 Surround Stakes Betting Favourite

Flying filly Bennetta is a short-priced favourite to continue her hot streak of form in the Group 2 2013 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

The Grahame Begg-trained three-year-old is the $2.40 top elect at and will chase a fourth straight win this weekend.

Bennetta first suggested she could be in for a big campaign when winning by 2 1/2 lengths at Canterbury in December.

She has since scored two more dominant victories in the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares Quality at the Gold Coast and the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes at Rosehill.

The likely major challenger to the in-form filly is Group 1 winner Dear Demi ($6) who finished third in the Light Fingers Stakes in what was her first-up run this autumn.

The Clarry Conners-trained galloper won the Group 1 Crown Oaks during the spring and finished second to Commanding Jewel in the Thousand Guineas.

Occupying the third line of betting is Driefontein ($6.50) who has been solid without success in four starts to date this time in.

The 2012 Magic Millions Classic winner was third in the Magic Millions Guineas and has since recorded fourth-place finishes in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes and the Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes.

Only one other runner falls under double figures, with Darley-owned filly Meidung at $8.50.

The Bernadini filly will be running first-up and was last seen winning the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes at Sandwon in November.

At $14 is Chris Waller’s emerging galloper Royal Descent who is stepping up in class after winning twice and finishing third one in three starts to begin her career.

Longport ($18) will have to bounce back from a a first-up eighth in the Light Fingers Stakes but showed talent during the spring to win the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes in the spring.
