Golden Slipper 2013 – Betting Update

A fighting Silver Slipper Stakes win on Saturday has seen Gai Waterhouse-trained filly Sweet Idea firm into $15 in the betting market for next month’s $3.5 million 2013 Golden Slipper (1200m).

The daughter of Snitzel overcame a heavy track and some strong performances from her rivals to back up a tough runner-up finish in the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January.

Sweet Idea now shares the third line of betting at $15 alongside stablemate Whittington and Silver Slipper third Charlie Boy.

Waterhouse was full of typical exuberance following Sweet Idea’s victory on Saturday.

“Outstanding filly. I said it all along, she’ll be impossible to beat today and more importantly she’ll be impossible to beat on Golden Slipper day,” Waterhouse said.

“The fillies have got it over the colts at this point in time.”

The betting favourite, Overreach ($4.40), also comes from Waterhouse’s stable.

The Exceed And Excel filly soared to the top of the Slipper market last month when winning the Listed Widden Stakes by six lengths.

Second favourite is Victorian filly Villa Verde ($7.50) who hasn’t been seen since the spring when she won back-to-back stakes races to begin her career.

Gerald Ryan-trained colt Charlie Boy ($15) ran third in the Silver Slipper when favourite on the weekend.

His only other start came in November when he stormed home to win on debut at Rosehill.

The only other runner falling under double figures is Darley colt Safeguard ($16) who won by two lengths on debut at Flemington in December.

Also featuring in Golden Slipper betting is Clarry Conners-trained filly Assail ($21) who is unbeaten from two starts and was to start as one of the favourites in the Magic Millions before being scratched due to injury.
