Kutchinsky Books 2013 Adelaide Cup Ticket – Roy Higgins Quality Results

Danny O’Brien-trained stayer Kutchinisky pressed his 2013 Adelaide Cup (3200m) claims with a strong win in the Listed 2013 Roy Higgins Quality (2600m) at Flemington today.

The six-year-old showed his staying ability to run down a tiring Tuscan Fire who led from the outset until the 200m mark.

With Craig Williams in the saddle, Kutchinisky found a run down the centre of the track where he powered through the line in a performance that suggested he will handle the extra distance in Adelaide on Monday week.

The son of Anabaa was runner-up at Group 1 level as a three-year-old in the 2010 Queensland Derby in a campaign where he won the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes.

Kutchinisky joined O’Brien before his spring campaign last year and the Flemington trainer is hopeful he can return to the heights he reached as a three-year-old.

“We’re hoping to get back to that sort level, he’s won a stakes race today,” O’Brien said.

“He’ll head to the Adelaide Cup on Monday week and he’ll go there in great form.”

O’Brien praised the ride of Williams who had the stayer in a “sweet position” for the majority of the race.

“It was a beautiful ride today because he was always travelling in a sweet position and they were doing plenty of work up front,” he said.

“I was pretty confident he was going to finish it off.”

Kutchinisky will carry 54kg in the Adelaide Cup which offers $400,000 in prizemoney.
