The big news out of Flemington this morning is that superstar colt has been scratched from the Group 1 2013 Australian Guineas (1600m) which is the day’s feature race.
An elevated temperature caused Team Hawkes to withdraw the $1.28 favourite who is being treated with antibiotics and likely to still compete in a full capacity at the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
“In human terms he’s got a cold and he has had some antibiotics,” co-trainer Wayne Hawkes told Radio Sports National.
Connections of Australian Guineas contenders will have woken with a smile on their faces as many would have been resigned to running for second.
Apart from the Guineas, other card highlights include the Group 3 2013 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) and the Listed 2013 Bob Hoysted Handicap (1000m).
The good news is the sun is shining and the track is rated a Good 3 which means limited scratchings and a quality day of racing at Australia’s premier track.
