Silver Slipper Stakes 2013 Betting Tips

There is plenty up for grabs in the Group 2 2013 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday which will be contested by 12 talented two-year-olds.

Last year’s Silver Slipper winner Pierro went on to win the Golden Slipper so will the $200,000 sprint again contain the autumn juvenile champion?

Favourite to win is Gerald Ryan-trained colt Charlie Boy ($3.90) who has received most of the attention in the betting.

Hot on his tail are last-start winners Never Can Tell and Kuroshio who share the second line of betting at $5.50.

The only other runner under double figures is Gai Waterhouse’s Magic Millions Classic runner-up Sweet Idea ($8).

There are plenty of contenders hovering around the $10 mark including All The Talk ($10), Citations ($11) and unbeaten Queensland gelding Whiskey Allround ($14).

Not familiar with these lightly-raced youngsters? Then keep reading as the Races.com.au form experts have been hard at work to bring you our very best Silver Slipper tips.

The Winner

#7 Charlie Boy $3.90

There is plenty of hype about Charlie Boy and we think for good reason. He’s only had one start but the the Myboycharliecolt looks a genuine Golden Slipper contender.

Was strong winning on debut in November and had a mighty impressive trial win on February 19.

Should slot into a good postion from barrier eight with experienced jockey Glyn Schofield aboard.

The Placings

#2 Whiskey Allround $14 and #9 Sweet Idea $8

Whiskey Allround travels down from Queensland for a first-up hit-out that will determine whether he remains to chase the southern riches or heads home.

Trainer Tony Gollan said anything less than a top three finish will be below par and his early career form certainly suggests that is a strong possibility.

The son of All Bar One won by 8 1/2 lengths on debut at Toowoomba in December before recording back-to-back city wins at Eagle Farm.

Sweet Idea is another early season two-year-old who has shown promise and is likely to have improved from a runner-up finish in the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast in January.
