The 2013 Millie Fox Stakes market is set to be blown wide open with top chance Secret Admirer an unlikely starter due to an expected heavy track at Rosehill on Saturday.
The six-year-old is currently a $3.90 second favourite behind noted wet-tracker Red Tracer ($1.90).
Secret Admirer performed well to finish second in her only start on a heavy surface in 2011 but trainer Grahame Begg is unlikely to burden her first-up carrying 59.5kg in tough conditions.
Begg said he has bigger aspirations later on in the 2013 Sydney Autumn Carnival and doesn’t want to jeopardize his charge’s chances by burning her out first-up.
“I’d say more than likely she won’t be running in the heavy ground first up over 1300m with 59.5kg on her back,” Begg told Sky Sports Radio.
Secret Admirer is undeniably a quality galloper but has gained a reputation as a non-winner in recent times.
The daughter of Dubawi hasn’t tasted victory since winning the Group 1 Emirates Stakes in October 2011 but has placed 10 times from 15 starts since.
Begg said he will discuss plans with connections but Secret Admirer could possibly take on a number of quality gallopers first-up in the Group 1 2013 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) in two weeks time.
The other options involve running in either the Group 3 2013 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) or the Listed 2013 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm next weekend.
“As they get older you have to start looking after them a bit more,” Begg said.
“It wouldn’t be that wise going around tomorrow against horses which probably have a bit more fitness on their side.”
If Begg tests Secret Admirer at Group 1 level first-up she will take on the likes of glamour mare More Joyous and South Australian gelding Happy Trails.
