Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Trainer Clarry Conners had always planned to resume Decision Time in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington Racecourse on March 9, 2013.
However, after a barrier trail went wrong today, it appears more likely he will instead wait until the Group 2 Challenge Stakes 2013 on March 30 at Rosehill Gardens.
Decision Time was set to start in today’s 1,000 metre trail at Warwick Farm racecourse against last year’s Newmarket Handicap winner Hay List.
However, Hay List failed to show up for the trial, and will instead take part in a track gallop tomorrow morning at Gosford.
Conners was forced to call in stable veteran Malambo in order to ensure the barrier trial could go ahead with the minimum number of required runners.
However, while Decision Time won the trial, Conners does not feel it qualified as the solid hit out he has been expecting against Hay List.
“I really wanted to give him a good test against a good horse,” Conners said.
“Looking at it now I should have pulled him out of the trial and put him in the heat against Shoot Out.
“I’ve planned it all along to give him three trials and then race him in the Newmarket but I’m not sure if he is ready for it after that.
“I’m not too sure what to do now. I might wait for the Challenge Stakes.”
Decision Time has won eight of his 15 race starts and has earned close to $1.3 million in prize money during his career.
