Foreteller Scores Upset Peter Young Stakes Win on Way to 2013 Australian Cup

Chris Waller-trained import Foreteller overcame a number of more highly-rated chances to claim the Group 2 2013 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield today.

Prior to jump it was billed as a match race between German import Mawingo ($2.30) and Perth stayer Mr Moet ($4) but it was $14 shot Foreteller who proved the strongest in the finish.

In-form galloper Budriguez led for the majority of the race , setting just a slow tempo which meant it became a sit and sprint at the finish.

Dwayne Dunn found an inside run aboard Foreteller from the back of the field and he managed to hold on from Mr Moet who flew home down the outside to claim second in a blanket finish as Budriguez took third-place honours.

Leading Sydney trainer Waller, who is in the process of setting up a satellite stable in Melbourne, said the six-year-old has now earned his spot in next month’s $1 million 2013 Australian Cup.

“He’s been set for the Australian Cup and we’ve been realistic all the way along knowing he has to improve to get to that,”

“But today was certainly a step in the right direction.”

Dunn admitted the race didn’t pan out as planned but was happy to take his chances when he found himself in a good spot behind the leaders entering the straight.

“My pre-race plan was probably going forward,” Dunn said.

“The tempo was so muddly I couldn’t get out from where I was.

“I landed right behind the leaders on straightening doing no work and the others had sort of fought their way out wide.”

The Australian Cup is on the radar on many of these horses so remember the form and back a winner at great odds with, home of the $400 bonus bet offer!
