Star Of Giselle has backed up her strong spring form to get her autumn off to a flyer with a late dashing win in the Group 3 2013 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield today.
Running first-up since November, jockey Kerrin McEvoy was happy to sit behind leader Family Crest before finding open running entering the straight.
From there the five-year-old came into her own to run down the leader and steal victory in the dying stages as Hi Belle screamed down the outside for third.
Co-trainer Matthew Ellerton was particularly pleased with the performance considering he knew she would need the hit-out ahead of bigger targets later in the autumn.
“This mare was a bit rusty today,” Ellerton said.
“I said to Kerrin just give her a sweet a first half-mile as you can and this will clean her up for a run down the track.”
The victory comes on the back of a spring campaign where she won three of five starts including the Group 3 Tesio Stakes.
On the autumn agenda for Star Of Giselle are the Group 3 2013 Matron Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on March 9 and the Group 2 2013 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on March 22.
McEvoy was aboard for her first Group win during the spring and was happy to reunite with the consistent galloper.
“I had a bit of luck on her during the spring and it was nice to get back on her here,” McEvoy said.
