The countdown to the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) is finally over, with the $1 million two-year-old race set to jump at 4:00pm (AEDT) at Caulfield today.
As far as the betting goes, it is the fillies who are dominant in the market, with Adelaide youngster Miracles Of Life ($2.90) the top elect ahead of Darley filly Guelph ($3.60).
After winning the first two starts of her career in Adelaide by huge margins, Miracles Of Life travelled to Caulfield on Australia Day for the Blue Diamond Fillies’ Preview where she scored a 4 1/2 length win.
Guelph hasn’t been quite as dominant but has proven herself to be an advanced juvenile with strong victories at her past two starts.
Occupying the third line of betting is Guelph’s stablemate Metastasio ($6.50) who is unbeaten from two starts.
The daughter of Streety Cry was last seen on February 2 putting paid to her rivals to the tune of three lengths in the Listed Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield.
No other runner falls under double figures, with Stephen Theodore’s hyped colt Crack A Roadie the next best at $14.
Theodore told anybody who would listen about the colt’s talent prior to his debut in the Inglis Banner Stakes in October and he responded to reel off a stunning finish to claim the $255,000 race.
He backed up that performance two weeks later in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate where he was beaten by a short head down despite getting slightly lost down the Flemington straight.
No runner in the Blue Diamond field has finished worse than fourth at their most recent start so it is expected to be a highly competitive affair.
Others in the Blue Diamond field include Michael Kent’s filly Godvia Rock ($15), last-start winner Gregers ($21) and Blue Diamond colts and gelding’s Prelude runner-up The Bowler ($21).
