Futurity Stakes 2013 – Betting Update and Tips

An action-packed day at Caulfield on Saturday and one of the most hotly-anticipated races is the Group 1 2013 Futurity Stakes (1400m).

The $500,000 weight-for-age test sees a number of quality gallopers resume but as far as the betting goes it’s all about All Too Hard.

The gun three-year-old is a $1.65 favourite to back up his strong win in the CF Orr Stakes two weeks ago.

Occupying the second line of betting is defending champion King Mufhasa ($5) while the market mover and third favourite is Melbourne Cup winner Green Moon ($8.50).

No other runner comes close to the top three in betting with Group 1 winners Lights Of Heaven ($18) and Glass Harmonium ($19).

Not familiar with much of this field? Need some help deciding your winning picks? Then keep reading as the Races.com.au form experts are here to deliver their expert betting tips.

The Winner

#10 $1.65

Nobody likes backing the $1.65 favourite but it’s simply too hard to look past him.

Form, fitness, talent, barrier and a weight advantage with 55.5kg under weight-for-age conditions make him a deserving odds-on top elect.

Will have benefited from the first-up win in the CF Orr Stakes and should simply prove too strong here.

The Placings

#4 Glass Harmonium $19 and #1 Green Moon $8.50

Both these horses have the Australian Cup as their primary goal but both are capable of running a big race first-up.

Glass Harmonium needs to get away cleanly, he has had barrier problems in the past, but the bold front-runner is as gutsy as they come and difficult to get past.

He’s a Group 1 winner and was last seen running second to Alcopop in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes.

Everybody knows Green Moon is a classy galloper after his Melbourne Cup win but he’s not hopeless over shorter ground.

Won first-up last autumn and while there will be a bit in the tank for later on he should be running home strongly.
