Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The first major two-year-olds feature of the autumn runs at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday with the Blue Diamond Stakes 2013 taking centre stage, Daniel Clarken’s South Australian filly Miracles Of Life the easing favourite.
Earlier the daughter of Not A Single Doubt, who is yet to taste defeat in her three career starts, was at $2.80 to extend her winning streak to four in the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on the weekend.
In the latest Blue Diamond Stakes odds however the last-start Blue Diamond Fillies Preview winner has eased out to $3.
Still, no other runner in the remaining 13-horse Blue Diamond Stakes has had much action at the bookies, Miracles Of Life on the rails still the one to beat despite only one other Blue Diamond Stakes winner having had their last lead-up run in a Preview a month earlier.
Second pick, the Peter Snowden-trained Guelph, remains steady at $3.30 with no queries over her form after a big win in the BD Fillies Prelude but questions over whether she can overcome her wide barrier 13 (into 12) draw.
Another top fancy to ease out in their price meanwhile is the fellow Snowden-trained Metastasio who, in gate 12 (into 11) now pays $6.50 out from $6.
Like the favourite the Street Cry filly is undefeated to date having won both of her career assignments by tidy margins including the Listed Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) at this track at the start of the month by three lengths.
While still at double figures there has been some interest in Godiva Rock meanwhile in from $17 to $15 as the fourth favourite in the Blue Diamond markets, Michael Kent’s Stratum filly racing for the first time since her third on debut in the Prelude behind Guelph.
Montsegur, still generously priced, has also come in notably from $31 to $26 with the Darley-owned New Approach filly looking to go one better than her second in the Prelude.
There has also been a tickle for Stephen Theodore’s progressive Cranbourne galloper Crack A Roadie who has come back in from $18 to $17.
Drawn in gate nine (into eight) with ace hoop Craig Williams to ride, the Charge Forward colt won the Inglis Banner on debut last October before their Group 3 second on Emirates Stakes Day with plenty of anticipation surrounding their delayed first-up run.
“This is the best horse I’ve ever had and I love him to bits,” Theodore said of Crack A Roadie.
“Every owner that’s involved with him has some way in the last eight, nine years played a big part in helping me get to where I am.
“To love the horse then love the owners and now have him going into Melbourne’s richest two-year-old race being a Melbourne trainer, s—, it doesn’t get much better than that.”
