Adelaide trainer Daniel Clarken is looking down the barrel of his biggest ever pay day as he prepares to saddle-up smart Not A Single Doubt filly Miracles Of Life in the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday.
Miracles Of Life is currently battling for favouritism with Peter Snowden’s Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude winner Guelph in the post-field markets for the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).
She could win that battle too before the week’s out after the South Australian raider drew the inside alley in the Blue Diamond Stakes barriers, Guelph stuck with gate 13 drawn by jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
On paper gate one is ideal but Clarken would ideally liked to have drawn between five and eight.
However he is happier in one than the extreme outside which is now the Peter Moody-trained Dissident in 15 following the early scratching of Talindert Stakes winner Casquets who had 16.
“You would like a bit of room, but it could have 16,” Clarken said after the draw.
“We’ll just have to have a good look at where the speed is and go from there.
While his filly will have to stay out of trouble from barrier one Clarken remains confident heading into the Melbourne Festival of Racing Classic with Miracles Of Life looking to retain her undefeated status.
“We’ve only asked her to go forward once and she did, I’m not too worried about the barrier,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter what race you’re in, you need luck in running.”
She already boasts two emphatic wins back home at Morphettville and a Caulfield victory when winning her interstate debut in the Listed Blue Diamond Fillies Preview (1000m) back on Australia Day.
Saturday will certainly be a test with many of her rivals having had a more recent lead-up run, but Clarken believes fresh is best for Miracles Of Life who will have regular rider Lauren Stojakovic in the saddle for a fourth time.
Miracles Of Life certainly looked on track for her acid test, which will be her first time over the 1200m, when working at home on Tuesday morning alongside stablemate Latvian Amber.
“I could not have been happier,” Clarken said.
“She’s pulled-up well from the hit-out at this stage.
“She’s worked with something that gallop too, which is a bonus.”
