Members Joy Tops 2013 Angus Armanasco Stakes Nominations

Robert Smerdon’s progressive grey filly Members Joy will look to break her Group duck this Saturday when she races third-up in the Angus Armanasco Stakes 2013 at Caulfield as part of Blue Diamond Stakes Day.

The three-year-old daughter of Hussonet enjoyed a stakes win at Flemington last September but hasn’t won a race since, coming close though on a number of occasions including her second in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes over the mile.

She resumed with a fourth on Australia Day before improving on February 9 when defeated just a short half-head in the Listed Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, an effort she will look to go one better in in the $220,000 Group 2 D’Urban Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) this weekend.

A total of nine three-year-old fillies were nominated for the Angus Armanasco Stakes this year with nominations extended until 10:00am (AEST) on Tuesday.

Other highly-rated fillies in the mix include the Michael Kent-trained Summer Gem and Peter Moody’s Kevin Hayes Stakes fourth placed Meliora.

There are then three last-start winners in the mix with Al Maher filly Hamam after their third straight following country wins at Werribee and Bendigo, the lightly-raced Canterbury Hill and the undefeated David Hayes-trained Red Ransom filly Red Fez coming off a tight win at Sandown from February 6.

See below for the full Angus Armanasco Stakes 2013 nominations with the final field due for release on Wednesday.
