The bad luck has continued for 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready who has had her 2013 Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival end before it even began.
The classy three-year-old tore a muscle earlier this week and trainer Mick Price is not taking any risks.
Samaready will be sent to Rockmount pre-training facility where she will be closely monitored by a vet and chiropractor until she is back to full health.
“She has a torn muscle on the near-side hind between the sacroiliac [joint] and the groin,” Price said.
Price believes the injury occurred after a gallop on Tuesday morning.
Since her stunning two-year-old campaign Samaready has experienced awful luck, having been restricted to just one spring start before injury cruelled her campaign.
But Price hasn’t ruled her completely out of the autumn, hoping she can come back for a tilt at the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
“It’s a soft tissue injury, you wouldn’t think it will take forever to recover,” Price said.
The daughter of More Than Ready starred as a juvenile to win the first four starts of her career in dominant fashion before running third to Pierro in the Golden Slipper.
Prior to the injury targets that had been discussed as possibilities for Samaready in Sydney included the Group 1 2013 Coolmore Classic and the Group 1 2013 Queen Of The Turf Stakes.
One horse who could be headed to those big Group 1 mares’ features is Steps In Time who was a strong winner in the Group 2 Thoroughbred Club Breedsers Classic at Rosehill today.
The John O’Shea-trained five-year-old led from start to finish to defeat Chris Waller’s quality mare Red Tracer.
