Alzora Wins The Vanity 2013 – Flemington Results

David Hayes-trained filly Alzora has overcome a big price to upset a number of more fancied rivals in the Group 3 2013 The Vanity (1400m) at Flemington today.

The field were never seperated by much for the entire trip as You’re So Good set the pace up front.

As the bunched group rounded the home turn You’re So Good extended her lead before a flying Alzora ($26.20) ran over the top in the dying stages and Petite Diablesse screamed home for third.

It was the second stakes win of Alzora’s career after breaking her maiden in the Listed Etheral Stakes during the spring.

There is expected to be plenty of improvement from the daughter of Redoute’s Choice who Hayes believes is a stayer of the future.

The high profile trainer has pencilled in the Group 1 2013 Australasian Oaks at Morphetville later in the autumn as a suitable target.

“I’m hoping she can develop into an Australasian Oaks filly,” Hayes said.

“It’s a juggling act with a stayer in a sprint, we had her fresh but maybe too fresh.

“I thought she may have ended her run at the 50 (metre mark) but to her credit she hung in there.”

Jockey Nick Hall gave Alzora a glowing endorsement heading towards bigger spring targets.

“She’s come back extremely well,” Hall said.

“I think David has pretty well got her worked out, so look out for her.”
