The countdown is nearly over to the return of the queen with Black Caviar set to make a much anticipated return in the Group 1 2013 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on Saturday.
The Lightning, set to jump at 4:30pm (AEDT), will be the first time the wonder mare has stepped out on race day since her nail-biting win in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.
Her well-documented 22-race unbeaten record is almost unbelievable and every superlative possible has been used to describe her.
As has been the trend in her races in recent years, the vast majority are not willing to take her on, and at $1.06 it would appear her seven rivals are all competing for second.
In fact, without Peter Moody entering quality stablemates Moment Of Change and Golden Archer, the $500,000 race would be almost empty.
With some of the runners in the field likely to be unknown to many fans, we at Races.com.au have produced this short, sharp two-word form guide to help you analyse the 2013 Black Caviar Lightning field.
- #1 First Command $41 – Class rise
- #2 Golden Archer $41 – BC’s Shadow
- #3 Moment Of Change $18 – Future gun

- #5 Spirit Cent $501 – Country galloper
- #6 Black Caviar $1.06 – Unbeaten champion

Despite Black Caviar appearing close to a certainty, there are still some exciting markets you can get involved with to add some extra spice to your Lightning Stakes Day betting.
At bookmaker.com.au you can back a winner in the “Lightning Stakes without Black Caviar” market or pick your own odds about the great mare by selecting the margin she will win by.
