If the betting market is anything to go by, Saturday’s Group 3 2013 The Vanity (1400m) at Flemington is set to be an open affair.
Fourteen horses will contest the $150,000 three-year-old fillies’ event and of those six fall under double figures.
Danny O’Brien-trained youngster Spending is the bookmaker.com.au favourite at $4.60 but will have to bounce back from finishing fifth at her last start at Caulfield on February 2.
In a field of lightly-raced fillies, both You’re So Good ($6) and Are There Any ($6.50) follow closely in betting.
You’re So Good has won the first start of her career in December and backed that up to finish second at Sandown-Lakeside on February 6.
Peter Moody’s Are There Any has also shown good form, winning on debut at Stawell on January 18 and finishing third on city debut at Caulfield on February 2.
Two of the more experienced runners are Royal Scandal and Kazanluk who share the next line of betting at $8.
Darley-owned galloper Kazanluk showed her talents at the Spring Carnival, winning the Group 2 Fillies’ Classic and finishing third in the Listed Myer Spring Fashion Stakes.
Royal Scandal was fourth on city debut at Caulfield earlier this month but prior to that scored consecutive wins at Pakenham and Ballarat.
Stepping up in class but bringing terrific form into Saturday’s race is Petite Diablesse ($9). The talented filly will be having her first metropolitan start after winning her past two outings at Kyneton and Ballarat.
Returning for the first time since a spring campaign where she signalled plenty of potential is David Hayes’ filly Alzora who who won the Listed Ethereal Stakes in October and finished fifth in the Group 1 Crown Oaks.
Also included in the Vanity betting market are Nadeem Lass ($13), Legcut ($15) and Shilly Shally Miss ($21).
