Wide Draw for Royal Haunt in 2013 CS Hayes Stakes Field

Royal Haunt is unbeaten from three starts but will have to be at his absolute best to keep that record intact on Saturday after drawing the outside barrier 12 position for the Group 3 2013 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

The Peter Moody-trained galloper won the Listed Manfred Stakes by a convincing 4 1/2 lengths at Caulfield on February 2 and in doing so announced himself as a potential Australian Guineas contender.

Also drawing poorly is Darley colt Albrecht who will jump from just one spot inside Royal Haunt in barrier 11.

The Peter Snowden-trained three-year-old is on trial for an Australian Guineas berth after a disappointing first-up sixth in the Manfred Stakes.

The son of Redoute’s Choice was favourite in the Manfred on the back of spring campaign that saw him finish second in the Golden Rose but could not produce anywhere near his best on the day.

Snowden has said he will need to show great improvement to continue on to the Guineas or he will take him home to Sydney.

Royal Haunt is not the only unbeaten galloper in the field, with Michael Kent’s promising colt Philippi due to have his first start since the spring.

The son of Host will be ridden by Craig Williams from barrier two after a debut campaign that saw him convincingly win his first three starts including the Listed UCI Stakes.

Greg Eurell will hoping either Force Command or Hosting can turn the tables on Royal Haunt after the pair finished second and third respectively in the Manfred Stakes.

Others included in the field for three-year-old colts and geldings’ event are Bart Cummings’ stakes winner Lunar Rise, the in-form Bass Straight and Mark Kavanagh-trained colt Sheer Talent.
