Twelve horses have been named in the field to contest the Listed $120,000 2013 Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Included in the field of two-year-olds are three unraced gallopers and no horse has had more than three starts.
One galloper who has already signalled potential is Peter Moody-trained filly Kona Breeze who has recorded three consecutive runner-up finishes to begin her career.
The daughter of Sebring has handled rises in class successfully to be competitive from her debut race at Echuca to Listed level in the Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield on February 2.
Only one horse in the field has recorded victory and that is Team Hawkes-trained filly Hailin’ Diamonds who won on debut at Werribee on January 27.
Politeness will be out to redeem herself after the Robert Smerdon-trained filly was a disappointing fifth when debuting to plenty of hype at Moonee Valley on February 1.
Also needing to bounce back is Danny O’Brien-trained colt Excitable Boy who finished sixth in the Blue Diamond Preview on January 26 after debuting with a third at stakes level during the Spring Carnival.
David Hayes generally has a strong hand in Melbourne two-year-old races and this weekend is no different with Redoute’s Choice colt Great Esteem to make his debut along side last-start sixth Blue Palace.
Annenberg has already hinted at her ability in the city with a runner-up effort on debut at Moonee Valley on February 1 while Casquets finished third in that race.
Stepping out for their debuts are Stephen Hutchinson-trained gelding Consorting and Anthony Freedman’s filly Indulgence.
A bumper card is set for Black Caviar’s return at Flemington this Saturday and great odds on all the day’s action will be found at bookmaker.com.au.
