Brilliant Bisc Resumes in 2013 Widden Stakes Field

Peter Moody’s 2013 Golden Slipper hope Brilliant Bisc will kick start her autumn campaign in Sydney this Saturday leading a lightly-raced field of two-year-old fillies that will face off in the $100,000 Listed Widden Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

A full field of 14 hopefuls is engaged in this year’s Widden Stakes – Rosehill Race 4 at 2:50pm (AEST) -with Elvstroem filly Brilliant Bisc to wear the number one saddlecloth.

Winner of the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) last October on debut she races for the first time since this weekend looking to earn a late entry into the famous $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) back at the track on April 6.

She looks in fine form for her second run too having blitzed a 900m trial at Rosehill on January 22 but does have barrier 11 to overcome on Saturday.

Despite not currently being nominated for the Golden Slipper 2013 bookies around the country aren’t taking any chances and have her installed at around $17.

The shortest-priced youngster in the futures Golden Slipper odds meanwhile is $15 fourth favourite Overreach, Gai Waterhouse’s Exceed And Excel filly drawn in barrier six with Tommy Berry to ride.

Overreach debuted at Caulfield last October when a brave second to current Golden Slipper betting favourite Villa Verde in the Listed Inglis Debutants Stakes (1000m) and from their nice draw could be hard to beat first-up after their six length trial win at the track last month.

The other most notable Golden Slipper-bound two-year-old in the Widden Stakes this year is then $26 chance Most Joyful, a full sister to Waterhouse’s star mare More Joyous.

The unraced daughter of More Than Ready out of Sunday Silence mare Sunday Joy has had two trials in Sydney leading up to her debut, most recently a narrow 740m win at Randwick, and there is sure to be plenty of attention surrounding her first trip to the races.

Other previous winners in the mix include the Craig Carmody-trained Zizou filly Everage with the inside barrier, Anthony Cummings’ Casino Prince filly Twice Shy and the Chris Waller-trained duo of Calming Influence and Mamwaazel who have drawn at opposite ends of the field with gates 12 and two respectively.

The full 2013 Widden Stakes field, barriers, jockeys and weights are detailed below.
