Golden Rose winner Epaulette will miss the majority of the autumn but will still make a play at some top tier events in the Group 1 2013 TJ Smith (1200m) and the Group 1 2013 All Aged Stakes (1400m).
Darley’s number one three-year-old suffered a setback early in his campaign which has delayed his return and forced him to miss the entire 2013 Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.
Trainer Peter Snowden said the son of Commands will be ready to resume for a trial in the next few weeks.
The Group 1 TJ Smith takes place at Randwick on April 13 with the All Aged Stakes set for April 27.
Epaulette is coming off the back of a strong spring campaign where he won the Group 1 Golden Rose and the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude before running third in the Caulfield Guineas.
From eight starts the youngster has scored four victories to collect more than $1 million in prizemoney.
Prior to his early campaign setback Epaulette was seen as a genuine contender in the Group 1 Australian Guineas which will take place at Flemington early next month.
With Darley’s number one colt on the sidelines, Albrecht has been charged with tackling Melbourne’s premier three-year-old event.
But even he may not get there, with Snowden giving him the opportunity to prove his worthiness of a start in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) on Saturday after a disappointing first-up run.
The son of Redoute’s Choice was a short-priced favourite in the Manfred Stakes on February 2 but produced a lacklustre performance to finish in sixth position.
“His work was excellent so look, if he ran poorly again on Saturday I would definitely take him back home,” Snowden said.
Albrecht showed his quality in the spring when winning the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes and placing in both the Group 1 Golden Rose and Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes.
